Sound Performances: Erik Alalooga (EST) & Lai Tsung-Yun, Baltic Analog Lab (TW)
Baltic Analog Lab and Skaņu Mežs present an evening of sound performances by two artists in residence: Erik Alalooga (Estonia) and Lai Tsung-Yun (Taiwan).
Erik Alalooga is a performance director, sound artist, and cultural manager based in Tallinn. His work explores DIY analog technological solutions and the immediate relationship between human and machine, including psychedelic noise, pseudo-shamanism, and neo-industrial music using unconventional mechanical instruments.
This evening he presents three new pieces receiving their world premiere: Curse upon Electricity, The Boreal Desert, and a third work yet to be titled. This is the first time in his decade-long career that he has divided a performance into separate named works.
Lai Tsung-Yun is a Taiwanese sound and media artist working with modular synthesis, algorithmic systems, field recordings, and real-time processing. Since 2013, he has curated the Lacking Sound Festival, Taiwan’s longest-running experimental sound platform. During his residency at BAL, he has been exploring Riga’s experimental music scene and incorporating the lab’s synthesizers into his live setup.
The event takes place in the second-floor residence rooms at Baltic Analog Lab.
