“Alternatīva: Traces from the Underground” × DZZ – Concert Event

A concert event tied to the exhibition “Alternatīva: Traces from the Underground” – happening in the gap where culture is still searching for its form.

“Dūmu Zārka Zēni” (DZZ) is a radical improvisation orchestra working at the border between music, noise, and collective experiment. Founded by Dāvis Burmeisters, the ensemble brings together musicians from different practices to create unpredictable, process-driven performances in which noise, dynamics, and chance are the primary means of expression.

DZZ is an open system – reformed with each performance through collective intuition and the exploration of sound as a living, impermanent structure. The collective is known for performing in small, non-institutional spaces and is considered one of the most radical improvisational practices in Riga’s underground scene. In 2024 they completed one of their most ambitious projects: a 24-hour continuous concert at NOASS as part of the Sculpture Quadrennial Riga.
