Balfolk Placis: Folk Dancing and Live Music at Āgenskalns Market
Balfolk Placis brings live Latvian and European folk music to the greenhouse at Āgenskalns Market, turning it into an open social dance floor for the evening. The programme includes waltzes, mazurkas, polkas, bourrées, circle dances and other dances from the balfolk tradition.
No partner or previous experience is required, and the dances are introduced throughout the evening. For international residents, it is a relaxed way to meet people and experience local cultural life through participation rather than simply watching from the audience.
On July 31, the music will be performed by the Latvian-Danish duo Celandine, featuring Antra Toporkova and Mattias Segalt Hansen.
